Colin Lambertus is an experienced associate solicitor, specialising in data protection and commercial contracts. With a background in advising technology-driven businesses, Colin provides legal advice to high-growth start-ups, well known SMEs and public sector organisations. He also assists other members of the EM Law team in various respects, primarily in the context of legal disputes and corporate transactions.
Colin holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bristol. He completed his graduate diploma in law (Commendation) and legal practice course (Distinction) with BPP Law School.
Before joining EM Law, Colin was with the London office of White & Case LLP and subsequently qualifying as a solicitor with Schillings International LLP.

Data Protection
- Advised a VC backed generative AI start-up on data protection compliance and Online Safety Act 2023 obligations, putting in place comprehensive policies and related documentation.
- Advised an AI developer in the pharmaceutical sector on its UK GDPR obligations in respect of its customers and suppliers.
- Advised various data-heavy businesses in respect of their liability under the CDPA 1988/UK GDPR regarding their web scraping activities.
- Advised the government of a British Overseas Territory on data protection compliance.
- Advised a major US charity on data protection compliance in respect of FCDO funded work in Africa and Southeast Asia. Drafted suite of policies and UK GDPR compliant documents, including an extensive DPIA which involved liaising with four joint controllers independently.
- Advised multiple UK and overseas clients in respect of international transfers of personal data outside of the UK.
- Advised data subjects as to their rights under the UK GDPR and the filing of claims in Court.
- Advised SaaS providers on their data processing obligations and related contractual obligations, drafting extensive data processing and sub-processing agreements and assisting negotiations with major international corporations.
Commercial Contracts
- Advised software developers, SaaS providers and their customers on their commercial contracts, drafting SaaS agreements, SLA commitments, licences, software related consultancies and supply of service contracts.
- Advised on and drafted AI-as-a-Service agreements and AI related clauses for cutting edge tech businesses.
- Advised a household name in respect of its launch of a beauty brand in the UK. Drafted CRA 2015 compliant contracts of sale, privacy documentation, and successfully negotiated a > £1 million inbound value warehousing agreement with a leading UK warehousing business.
- Advised on complex distribution agreements with household name Southeast Asian cosmetic manufactures for a start-up client in the UK.
- Advised several digital marketing and website design businesses regarding their supply of services/website development contracts.
Corporate
- Routinely advised on the disclosure process and provided ad-hoc support project support on a number of corporate transactions, including:
- Managing the disclosure process and detailed document review in respect of a share sale (>£12 million) of a UK business caught by the National Security & Investment Act 2021.
- Advising on the disclosure/disclosure review process in respect of a complex merger between two leading snowsports companies in the UK.
Litigation and disputes
- Advised a major supplier to local councils across the UK in contemplated claims for breach of contract, negligence and misappropriation.
- Advised individuals assisted by a foreign embassy in the context of claims for breach of contract.
- Advised a household name brand in the context of a claim under the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993.
